About
Loren is an architectural designer and an artist. He received a master’s degree in architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Boston University. His pursuits have been driven by curiosity of the environment around him. Initially, it was physical phenomena: how does a wing experience lift or a vault resolve gravitational forces. Later, emotive forces: how do two works of similar function elicit unique responses of joy, comfort, hostility or fear? What builds the relationship between subject and surrounding? What role does space play in the relationship between two inhabitants? The conceptual framework of an art-based architectural education, specifically the practice of shedding preconceptions in order to see through apparent opacities, has been critical to Loren’s practice, in art, design, and education.
